UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR)

Interpretation EN – ES – FR – KO

Local and regional governments are firmly on the ‘frontline of opportunity’ of efforts to reduce disaster risk in the era of the global Climate Emergency and COVID-19 pandemic. From the development of people-centered early warning systems and early action plans to the reduction of vulnerabilities through public service provision and risk-sensitive urban planning, LRGs are critical to secure progress towards Agenda 2030 in the face of increasingly complex shocks. Coinciding with International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, this session will look into local multi-stakeholder approaches towards “Early warning, early action”, and review the contributions of LRGs to the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
