Monitoring & Reporting on the SDGs: Why and How to Capture SDG Progress at Local Level?

Multilevel Governance | Resilience

UCLG Working Group on Capacity and Institution Building (CIB)

The Global Taskforce’s annual report “Towards the Localization of the SDGs”, the Voluntary Local Reviews (VLRs) produced by more than 150 cities and regional governments, and the 25 Voluntary Subnational Reviews (VSRs) produced by various local government associations, show how critical local governments are for achieving Agenda 2030. The progress documented in these mechanisms should enter Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs), as they remain the main instruments for reporting on the SDGs at UN level. This session will explore how to capture local progress, and to interlink VNRs, VSRs and VLRs, in the years to come.
