SDGs cannot be achieved without proper financial resources. Yet most local and regional governments, especially intermediary cities in the Global South, are facing huge financial gaps to deliver basic services to their communities. The session will present the achievements of the UCLG strategy on “localizing finances for sustainable urbanization and territorial development”. It will provide an overview of the missing links to increase impacts and outline the proposed new approach to scale up support for more -and better- financing for local and regional governments.

  • Serge Allou, Special advisor to the UCLG World Secretariat
  • Jean-François Habeau, Executive Director, FMDV
  • Pascal Lavoie, Director, International Programs, Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM)
  • Philippe Camille Akoa, General Manager, Special fund for equipment and inter-municipal intervention (FEICOM), Cameroon
